Get [Personal]: Open Table Monday’s

Monday is my home base.  It’s the day life resets itself.  Usually I take Monday’s “off” from the studio (even though I’m blogging today).  I clean up my house, go grocery shopping, pick up the dry cleaning, go to the post office… and then?  I cook.  Why?  Because I need to.  It’s the one time where I can put in a disc of Big Bang, zone out, and all I have to do is follow the recipe.  It clears my head from all the junk its accumulated during the week.

Monday is also “open table” night… with a few of my friends I have a standing invitation, “If you need something to do on Monday night, if you’ve had a bad day or “case of the Monday’s”, let me know you’re coming by at least noonish, and we’ll have a spot for you at the table.”  It’s become therapeutic, and for a few of my friends – something that gets them through that Monday dredge of going back to the grind.  The only problem has been coming up with new recipes (enter skinnytaste!).

You see, I know I’m blessed.  I know that my Monday’s off aren’t everyone’s day off, but I know that I can use that day to make someone else’s day better.  And sometimes all anyone needs to know is that they have a place waiting for them at The Table, anytime they want to take advantage of it.

Because, I remember the family dinners when I was growing up.  We would eat for 30 minutes, and then spend an hour laughing and sharing the day.  Some of my favorite memories have come from those times.  Even if I can’t recreate that every night, at least I can do that once a week for my Monday night family; and give them a sense of community, a place to offload their mind and heart, share a glass of wine, and give them something to look forward to.

Tonight’s dish: Chicken Cacciatore

Ok, off to the day!  XOXO!
